I've been friends with this guy since my Freshman year of college. We talk on and off and I've even chilled at his house a few times & almost spent the night. We always flirt through text messages and when I ask him about taking it a step further he always says he doesn't want to "ruin our friendship" but he always says how he can see himself with a girl like me! It's frustrating because I like him so much & I feel like we're so close as friends, why not take it further?

Should I just forget him?

My opinion: yes - forget him. He's making excuses and there's no point in trying to figure out his motive. Maybe he doesn't really want a girlfriend right now. Maybe he likes you but not enough to be his girlfriend. Don't let him string you along! Just create some space between the two of you. See what happens when you stop the flirting and the extra attention you give him, and go on a date or two. If he likes you he'll ask you what happened. That will be an opportunity to give him the choice. If he wants to be Just Friends, then he will know what to expect. (no more flirting, just platonic conversation)
