I've been with my girlfriend for sometime now, about a year. Things are starting to get serious and I could really see myself spending the rest of my life with her. I've been wanting to pop the question to her, but I'm not going to do anything boring or just pop down on one knee in the middle of her bedroom and ask her, I want to do something we'll both remember forever... Any married, engaged, or divorced couch members mind sharing how you were asked?

I think what is important to think about is what type of person your girlfriend is. For example, is she someone who would appreciate something more traditional, or more spontaneous? It is important to do something worth remembering for the rest of your lives, but also to think about what 'style' she would appreciate to begin with. Many people do appreciate getting down on one knee and a simple proposition, others like to be led on with a bit of extravagant flair. Something worth remembering doesn't always have to be completely original! As long as it's from the heart, it should be something you can both appreciate and remember.

I think my husband popped the question in a pretty original way so I'll share it with you because he certainly swept me off my feet. We were dating for about a year when Valentine's Day rolled around. He took me out to dinner at a really nice restaurant in NYC called Terrace in the Sky. In the middle of dinner he gave me a card that he made, I opened the card and inside were two tickets to San Francisco. He said that he always wanted to take me there because it's his favorite city (other than NYC). So, we flew out to San Fran one week later. I had no idea that he was intending to propose to me out there. We were there for three days. He waited until the last day and proposed to me on Stinson Beach, which was a beautiful, private, romantic location. We were laying on the beach and he pulled the ring out of his pocket and proposed to me as we were gazing into and admiring the ocean. Very romantic!
